Open The Dating Door

This door appeared just down the road from our house and it made us laugh. We live very close to a lot of student accommodation from the University so unusual objects turning up around and about us is not uncommon. We embrace the fun side of it. The irony is that today I had begun to draft the Blog post called 'Open The Dating Door'

Now when I started this blog post this morning, I knew what I wanted to say and I had written some words. But then my Husband and I took a lunchtime walk into the City in which we live and something happened that had me jumping with glee because it was exactly what I had been typing about that very morning!!

Our City, Coventry in the UK is having a make-over in the centre and as well as that it is 2021’s City of Culture. It’s so thrilling! This last weekend was the launch of ‘our’ year with social distanced parades and a wonderful online celebration called Coventry Moves, which you can find on the Internet.

So, my Husband and I after watching that live, wanted to see it all for ourselves and being a photographer, I wanted to capture some lovely shots. We weren’t disappointed! In the newly renovated square that contains the Cosy Club, where my Husband proposed on the balcony 4 years ago, we joined others in the admiring and I took lots of pictures.

A very handsome man danced past us, apologising for his presence in my picture, laughing that I wouldn’t want his ‘big head’ in my shots! My Husband and I retorted with equally funny responses and we all laughed heartily and a few more comments were exchanged.

Next, I turned around and another lovely man was taking photographs and I then apologised, laughing, for being in his picture. We are all so British aren’t we, sorry is our second language! But he equally laughed and my husband and I responded to his comments of how wonderful the City centre now was and a hilarious conversation ensued of how the exact same spot had been in the 1970’s and how you were at risk of being mown down by buses in the 1980’s. It was the kind of backward and forward exchange that made you feel equally as sunny inside as the day was outside!

And it struck me that, as I had typed in my Blog post, how easy it is to have enjoyable exchanges with all manner of men, if you are just open to it. If everywhere you go, you are willing to laugh, to point out ironies with complete and utter strangers, you will be struck by how many people are open to that type of exchange. Basically we are all searching for connections and we want those connections to be positive. I’m not saying that every man you laugh with will turn out to be the love of your life but surely that old saying is true, that “if you cast your net wide enough you will surely catch a fish!”

And image how much more happy your dating search will be if you are having daily interactions with funny, fun loving people. No expectation, don’t go out of your own door everyday saying to yourself “today I’m going to bump into the man of my dreams” why would you set yourself up for that kind of fall, no, everyday go out of your front door thinking “I’m going to have fun, I’m going to interact with many people, I’m going to laugh with them and enjoy my day” and that way you are opening yourself up to lovely interactions, you are opening up possibilities.

Because of the conversation with the lovely man, he is now going to come to my Husband's next concert but just image if I was a single lady, I may have been going to a concert with him!
